Pig Roast

By Doreen Guillette

When Peter and I moved to Beaver Meadow in 2013 with our family, we were so impressed with how close the community was connected. We really enjoyed the Halloween and Christmas gatherings at the schoolhouse and how they drew so many people in from the meadow. The following year we had a pig roast with our family and friends inviting them to visit our new home. The year after that we decided to have another pig roast but to invite the community instead. That first year we went door to door inviting everyone in the meadow. The invitation was so well received with more than 50 people in attendance. We decided right then and there to make it an annual event. Some years there is live music, some there are puppet shows put on by our wonderful neighbor Ria along with our children. There is always a wonderful turnout, lively conversations and connection with new members of the community as well as re connections with those that have been here for decades. It's such a refreshing feeling to be surrounded by people that all live (or use to live) within a few miles from one another gathered together sharing food, stories, laughter and creating new memories.

This event is held every September at our home on Chapel Hill Road. We hope to see you there!
